This week’s Sensational Haiku Wednesday prompt has been nibbling at my mind. Frustration. The poem that wanted to form would not mold itself into a 17 syllable creation. Frustration in its own right. We came to a compromise, settling on a tanka instead.
longing to reclaim
half forgotten melodies
fingers fight the pain
as they stumble through the chords
of musical memories

One of my poems for NaPoWriMo was an attempt at a sonnet. Although I love the form, I am notoriously bad with meter, so I took that original draft to the Steel Phoenix writers meeting for help. I am actually quite proud that the second stanza appeared to be correct rhythmically!

of fifty years since Gargarin’s first flight

with dulcet notes that float throughout the night
their joyful duet, memories abound
the flutes remember heroes Buzz and Neil
whose first few steps, so brave and so profound,
inspired generations with their zeal
aboard the international station
plays Cady Coleman, mission specialist
with Ian Anderson’s proclamation
our heroes: astronauts and scientists
they offer their music, the song “Bourree”
for honoring the explorers esprit

The weekend away that knocked me off schedule for the poetry challenge involved a road trip to Baltimore to see the Mythic Faire. This magical event combined threads of steampunk, faerie, pagan, rennies, pirates, scifi-fantasy, folk rock, and more into an amazing tapestry.
My primary incentive for attending: s00j. SJ Tucker is one of my favorite musicians, and she played two separate concerts. The following video is of “Cheshire Kitten,” off of her Mischief album, played during the Saturday afternoon performance.
