Saved #napowrimo : 21

gifts of witnessing
appear daily on my car
promising me Hell

I regularly have Chick Tracts left on my car at work. Shelley Segal, whom I saw live at the Reason Rally in March, sums up my response in her song “Saved.”

house hunting #napowrimo : 14

Theme Thursday offered the prompt of Wild:

house hunting
different desires
youthful yearnings

neat neighborhoods
perfectly paved
symmetrical streets

trackless trees
roaming room
wild wanderings

similarities sifted
concessions compromised
abode acquired

DrQuuxum and I have started house hunting. We both want what we grew up with. He keeps preferring homes in orderly housing plans, while I want land and privacy.

Annoyances #napowrimo : 13

Last week’s theme at Sensational Haiku Wednesday was Annoyance.

spring annoyances
mixtures of pollen and snow
filling every breath

Yesterday, we had both a winter storm warning and a local pollen alert at the same time.

Great Horned Owl #napowrimo : 12

Finally saw the great horned owl out at the farm last night. I’ve heard him many times, but this first sighting marks him as a life bird for me.

The Mass Same-Sex TV Wedding #napowrimo : 11

Someday, I will make a list of the people I discovered through Tim Minchin. Probably the one that I watch the most is Adam Hills. I adore Adam Hills for many reasons, this one not the least.

lifetime together
sharing the joys and hardships
committed partners
worthy of recognition
our love: precious, pure, and true

Mare TV #napowrimo : 2

electronic eyes
looking down from the rafters
watching the mares sleep

For the last several weeks out at the farm, we’ve been trying to set up a new camera system for the barn. Eight cameras, one over each pregnant mare, broadcast across the farm network to the house, where Mom can keep an eye on them all using an iPad (there’s also an app for my phone so I can peek in too). DrQuuxum got the last bug out of the system for us yesterday, and things will be operational for foaling season. All that’s left is to bury the cable connecting the house and the barn, currently it’s strung from window to window.

after months of cold stillness
winter hibernation ends

summer job resumes
foaling season begins
the garden blossoms
picnic fields entice
NaPoWriMo starts
